Did Mike Pence Back Kamala Harris for President? Here’s What Really Happened.

Mike Pence

Contrary to social media claims, Mike Pence has not endorsed any presidential candidate, including Kamala Harris or Donald Trump. During a recent episode of the Indiana 250 Off the Record podcast, Pence outlined four reasons for his decision not to support Trump’s presidential bid.

Pence, who served as Trump’s vice president from January 2017 to January 2021, expressed concerns about Trump’s stance on the 2020 election results and criticized what he perceived as a shift towards isolationist foreign policy, rising national debt, and a de-emphasis of abortion issues within the GOP’s 2024 policy platform.

Following the storming of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, where Trump supporters chanted ‘Hang Mike Pence,’ the former VP cited his refusal to endorse Trump due to differences over constitutional duties and policy direction.

Despite rumors on social media suggesting otherwise, Pence has remained silent on endorsing Kamala Harris or any Democrat candidate.

Social media reactions speculated falsely about Pence endorsing Harris, with one comment stating, “The idea of former VP Mike Pence endorsing Kamala wasn’t on my 2024 bingo card.” Another comment incorrectly claimed, “Big news! Kamala has received two HUGE Republican endorsements—first Geoff Duncan and now Mike Pence!” However, Pence has not endorsed any candidate at this time.

Kamala Harris campaign

In just five days since Kamala Harris launched her campaign swiftly, the 2024 election landscape has changed for Democrats. Bright green pro-Harris memes flooded social media. Her campaign raised $126 million in just a few days. Over 100,000 people volunteered and 2,000 applied for campaign jobs. New polls now show a race without a clear leader, a shift from Trump being ahead.

This surge reveals the Democratic Party’s eagerness for change at the top and their support for a candidate who can challenge Trump vigorously. Harris brings a new energy to familiar Democratic messages, emphasizing women’s rights, rejecting trickle-down economics, and defending democratic values.

Her energetic campaign contrasts with Joe Biden’s age, showing her potential to reshape the race. Former Biden campaign staffers, now part of Harris’ team, are surprised by the strength of her launch. It’s early to predict the race’s outcome, as Harris has yet to choose a running mate or air TV ads. The upcoming Democratic National Convention and a potential debate between Harris and Trump could further shift dynamics.

Despite uncertainties, early polls suggest Harris is narrowing Biden’s gaps among younger, non-White, and female voters. In recent polls, she’s neck and neck with Trump, reflecting a shift where voters support her rather than just oppose Trump. This support is particularly strong among young people, people of color, and women, traditionally Democratic demographics. Overall, Harris’ swift rise has unsettled the race, showing potential to alter the course of the 2024 election.
