Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, the notorious leader of Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel, and Joaquin Guzman Lopez was arrested by US federal agents in El Paso, Texas on Thursday. Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, one of the largest drug lords globally and he founded the criminal organization with Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. El Chapo is currently in jail in the US.

Joaquin Guzman Lopez well known for Sinaloa cartel’s investment. According to US state department Guzman runs huge milk company and Bus transport in Mexico. As well as he also involve cartel activities and trafficking of fentanyl in United States.

A Mexican federal official, who requested anonymity, revealed to The Associated Press that Zambada and Guzman Lopez arrived in the United States aboard a private plane, where they voluntarily surrendered to authorities. The U.S. government had placed a hefty $15 million bounty on Zambada’s head, highlighting his decades-long evasion of law enforcement.

Zambada and Guzman Lopez were responsible for overseeing the trafficking of substantial drug shipments into the U.S., accompanied by escalating violence, as stated by FBI Director Christopher Wray. Now, they will be held accountable within the U.S. justice system.

Attorney General Merrick Garland underscored the severity of the threat posed by fentanyl, vowing to pursue all cartel leaders responsible for its distribution in American communities.

Mexican authorities refrained from immediate comment on these significant arrests. Zambada, known for his astute strategic maneuvers, lived under the constant specter of capture, a fear he openly discussed in a rare 2010 interview with Proceso magazine.

Rising from his beginnings as an enforcer in the 1970s, Zambada forged alliances with Colombian traffickers, solidifying his ascent within the cartel hierarchy.

His recent apprehension follows a string of high-profile captures within the Sinaloa cartel, including members of his own family and associates of “El Chapo” Guzmán. Despite Zambada’s arrest, experts remain cautious about its impact on cartel operations, given their resilient and adaptable nature.
